Jeff’s Showdown GPP Core- Super Bowl
As I always do in Showdown slates, I build my rosters based upon a certain GAME SCRIPT.
In addition, being contrarian either with the Captain position or in a Flex spot is also important if you want to win a huge GPP. Sometimes just owning a captain from the underdog team sheds quite a bit of ownership.
This week, I have heard exactly nobody pick the Patriots. Everybody is picking the Seahawks and many are picking them in a blow out. People think the Seahawk defense is completely indestructible. Don’t get me wrong, I believe they have a very strong defensive unit, but it is not so good that I don’t own plenty of Patriot players. We just have to look back at week 16 when the Seahawks defense allowed 37 points to the Rams. How about 24 points to the Titans. In that game Cam Ward threw for 256 yards, threw for a TD, and ran for a TD. Week 5 they allowed 38 points to the Bucs, including two rushing scores to Rachaad White and two passing scores to Baker Mayfield. My point is, it is not impossible to move the ball and score on this defense and to completely write off Patriots offensive players like some folks are doing does not make sense.
I find myself building quite a few rosters with Drake Maye in the Captain spot. He has an enormous ceiling especially with his rushing ability and the fact that the Pats could be playing from behind for much of this game. Unlike the Seahawks who have a very narrow target tree, the Pats have about 8 guys that can catch the football. I normally do not like stacking a QB and RB from the same team because they usually have a negative correlation, but I believe there could be a lot of shorter passes coming from the Pats on Sunday. Mack Hollins came off the couch last week out of nowhere and caught 2 balls for 51 yards. He still has big Q next to his name in DK. That can only mean he has limited ownership, I will own some shares. I will also own some Kayshon Boutte who has at least 4 targets in each of the past four games. Spreading around shares of cheap Pats could help someone become a millionaire. Even someone like Kyle Williams is a possibility. I also don’t hate Austin Hooper on a roster or two.
The Seahawks have such a narrow, defined target tree with Zach Charbonnet out. Kenneth Walker now sees 70+ % of the snaps and 90% of the carries. Just like I did last week, I will own some shares of George Holani. He saw three carries last week and three targets. Six touches for a guy who is $2,400 in a Showdown slate is massive. I will certainly have rosters with JSN, but keep in mind that he will be on 80%+ of rosters and he is the highest priced guy. People always remember the players last game and for JSN that was a monster. The three games before last week however he scored 16, 14, and 10 DK points. If he has that type of week and is in your Captain spot, you are in trouble. I will be well below the field in JSN ownership in an effort to be contrarian this week.
Here are a few examples of rosters- I am not telling you to use these lineups, I am just providing you examples of my though process when building rosters.
