Monday Night Showdown Slate Article- Bears @ Redskins

Another Monday night clunker, and get used to it friends because there are a ton of them this year.  I have no idea why the schedule makers found it necessary to include the Redskins, Bengals, and Dolphins this year, but if not for fantasy football the viewership would be rock bottom.

We have our Showdown slate to build teams for and DK points will be at a premium this week.  The Redskins will have tough sledding as Aaron Rodgers and the Packers offense struggled mightily against a tough Chicago defense week 1 and Case Keenum and the Redskins offense is not in the same ballpark.  For the second highest price on the slate, I really have no interest in Case Keenum.  Really the only bright spot in the Redskins offense through two weeks has been  wide receiver Terry McCLaurin who has caught 10 balls for 187 yards and a touchdown in each of the first two games.  His DK point run of 26 and 17 points is in serious jeopardy this week as Keenum will be under duress and looking to dump off quick passes.  I will have some exposure to McLaurin simply because there are not that many good options.   Probably my two favorite plays for the Redskins for the price are Vernon Davis and Chris Thompson who will be the recipients of Keenum’s short passes.  The Bears have given up 15 catches for 133 yards and a touchdown.  Jordan Reed is almost assuredly out, so Davis will get the vast majority of action at the tight end postion.  Chris Thompson has been his regular PPR exlcusive option through the first two games catching 12 balls on 18 targets for 116 yards.  The game script is likely going to be the Redskins trailing (Bears 5.5 point favorite), which means Thompson gets more plays and volume as the offense will be playing catch up mode.

Trey Quinn is usually a very low ceiling option, but he is only $3,800 and gets targets (13 through two games).  If he can somehow slip into the endzone he would blow away his price, so I will use him as a salary saver.

On the other side of the ball the Bears shifted from a running back by committee approach in week 1 to David Montgomery being the lead back in week 2.  Montgomery went for 62 yards on 18 carries in Denver last week and got into the endzone.  The Redskins have been gashed by opposing backs the first two weeks for 249 yards and a touchdown.  Positive game script, should mean Montgomery gets at least 18 carries again and you can bet his average per carry will increase this week.

I also like Tarik Cohen who is playing primarily in the slot as the Bears are acknowledging that his benefit comes from catching the ball in space.  He is very explosive and I always like him in Showdown slates because of his high ceiling.

Allen Robinson helped us a lot in Week 1 for our Showdown teams and he is easily the Bears top wide receiver option.  20 DK points week one, but only 8 last week as his targets were cut in half.  He will have Josh Norman shadowing him, but Norman has not been the lockdown corner he once was.  I am not afraid to roster Robinson and I will do so, but I might be underweight the field, because I am going to be putting more emphasis on the running game.

The Bears defense should feast on Case Keenum and will likely rack up the DK points.  I have talked about it before, but I do not like a defense in the Captain spot. This game however makes me seriously waiver on that stance however.  I will certainly have them in my lineups, but probably not much in the Captain slot.
