Monday Night Showdown Slate Article- Browns @ 49ers

Thursday nights Showdown Slate was a bit of a bust as over 1,100 teams tied for first place. The $400k first prize instantly turned into about $1k. This week I don’t think we are going to have a repeat and the main reason is that the San Francisco 49ers have an offense by committee approach.  If Tevin Coleman plays (and it appears he will) they will have four runningbacks splitting carries.  Same goes for their wide receiving core as any number of guys could turn their 4 or 5 targets into a big DK scoring night.

The game total is 47 points and the 49ers are favored by 5.

My favorite option on the 49ers is George Kittle who has 21 targets through their first three games, which leads the team.  Over the past three years the Cleveland Browns have become know for their inability to cover the tight end and this year is no different as they have allowed 15 catches for 156 yards and three touchdowns.  Kittle has yet to live up to the expectations he set with last years break-out season, but the targets are there, so it is just a matter of time.  I will own Kittle on 80% of my rosters and 30% in the Captain spot.

Jimmy G has a very high floor, but also a high ceiling having thrown five touchdowns in his first three games.  The Browns front four has been getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks (14 sacks), so Jimmy G will be throwing short routes trying to get the ball out quick.  That should benefit both George Kittle and the runningbacks out of the backfield.

Speaking of the backfield, good luck trying to identify which of Matt Brieda, 14-12-15, Tevin Coleman (if he plays) Raheem Mostert, and Jeff Wilson Jr. Brieda has slightly more carries than the others, but it is really close.  My two favorite out of the four will be Matt Brieda for his amount of carries, but I also like Wilson in showdown slates because he has gotten the carries in the redzone (4 touchdowns in his two starts). Touchdowns are huge in showdown slates and not to mention he is $1,600 less than Brieda.

For the 49er receivers, Deebo Samuel has the most targets of the core and Marquis Goodwin has the best chance of big play ability.  I will own both of these guys in my rosters, but I also like Richie James Jr.  as a punt play for only $1,000. He has the best match-up in the slot against the Browns T.J Carrie.

The Browns side of the ball is far more clear cut.  OBJ is the man in Showdown slates because of his big play ability.  We saw a great example of this a few Monday nights ago when he turned a 10 yard slant into an 80 yard touchdown. Since Richard Sherman plays the left side exclusively, you can bet OBJ will be lineup up on back-up cornerback Jason Verrett most of the game.  This is such a smash spot for OBJ, I will own him on 80% of my rosters and 40% in the Captain spot.

Coming off a monster 8 catch 167 yard day last week, Jarvis Landry also has a plus match-up against slot corner K’Waun Williams.  His $7,200 price is a bit limiting and I likely will not feature him in the Captain spot given he rarely gets into the endzone.

Nick Chubb went off last week in Baltimore, so his ownership will likely be high.  The 49ers have been very good against the run so far this season allowing only 3.3 yards per carry and allowing the least DK points to the runningback position.  Still Chubb has been a three down back, averaging 20 carries a game along with 3-4 catches as well making him fit no matter which way the game script goes.  I will have him in my Captain roster spot on 10-15% of my teams.

Last week the Browns started using Ricky Seals-Jones more and he caught all three of his targts for 82 yards and a touchdown.  He of course is filling in for David Njoku and gives us a decent option for only $2,800.

Another low dollar punt I like and will be using is Dontrell Hilliard for $1,800.  The direct back-up to Chubb, whether it be Hilliard or D’Ernest Jonnson has at least 8 DK points in each game this season.

A few of the initial lineups I like:

Captain- OBJ, Kittle, Mayfield, James, Landry, Samuel
