Sunday Night Showdown Slate Article- Steelers @ Chargers

Thursday night was an excellent way to start the week as we continued to stay hot in Showdown slates.  I was able to snag a tie for first place in the big $10 and the King of the Beach qualifier, good for nearly $20,000.  The game script went exactly the way I thought it would with the Giants unable to mount much on offense and the Patriots defense feasting.  It takes a pretty rare occasion for me to include a defense in the Captain spot simply because the upside is not there 95% of the time.  That was one of the rate times and I talked about having the Patriots defense as Captain on 10% of my teams.  Another important thing that you have to be able to do to be successful is to watch the injury report closely within an hour of the game and be able to pivot.  In my article I talked about really liking the Patriots runningbacks in a game with a positive game script and Rex Burkhead was one of them if he was active.  On the active/inactive report on Thursday night right before the game, Burkhead was ruled out.  I had about 15% of my lineups containing him, so I had to move my shares, which naturally went to Brandon Bolden, who was of similar salary.  On a few teams I shuffled a couple spots to upgrade to James White as well, but I already had White on the majority of my rosters. With the injury reports the way they are it is critical to monitor them no matter which type of slate (main or showdown) and adjust accordingly.  We need to outwork our competition and sometimes it pays off big.

Sunday night we have a couple of teams that had serious play-off aspirations at the beginning of the year, but things are looking bleak for both now.  The game total is 41.5 and the home team Chargers are favored by 6.5. The spread feels low to me and speaks to how bad the Chargers have been because the Steelers will be trotting out 3rd stringer Devlin Hodges at quarterback.
