Sunday Night Showdown Slate Article- Vikings at Cowboys

I had some success with Showdown Slates last year, but this year has been truly amazing so far.  Thursday night I notched my third win of the season in Showdown Slates in the big $10, good for a twelve way tie and a $39,000 payday.  I have heard from many of you who also had success on Thursday so congratulations.  I have also had some questions on what the key is and really I don’t do anything more than I have talked about throughout the year in my columns.  Develop a possible game script and build a roster accordingly.  The lineup that won on Thursday was Gordon as Captain, Rivers, Allen, Ekeler, Jacobs, and the Raiders defense.  I talked specifically in my article about liking the Chargers passing game, which is why I owned Rivers, Allen, and Ekeler and liking the Raiders running game (Jacobs).  When a team spends most of the game passing, it opens up opportunity for the oppositions defense with sacks and interceptions.  I did not have a ton of exposure to the Raiders defense, but more exposure  than I normally do.  A big reason was the lack of good options in the lower price range in addition to the Chargers expected to be passing a lot.  There were not more than 1 or 2 players below $4k that I felt would have a chance at scoring more points than the defenses.  I specifically talked about how concentrated the Chargers were with their targets.    I also specifically talked about how valuable touchdowns are in Showdown Slates and how many carries inside the 10 Gordon has had since his return.  There was an inquiry from somebody who was questioning owning the defense that opposed my Captain.  I am not sure why that seemed unusual on a one game slate (two teams), but it actually happens a lot of the time.  Actually of 26 Primetime Showdown Slate games this season the winning roster in the large $10 GPP has owned the opposing defense of their Captain six times (Allen Robinson and Packers, Mariota and Jaguars, Kupp and Browns, Thomas and Cowboys, Mahomes and Colts, Gordon and Raiders). So if you are intentionally avoiding the defense from your Captain you are limiting your options for no reason.  I have talked several times about the characteristics of winning Showdown Slate teams in my columns this year, but I have included the lineup of the winning team for all the big Showdown Slates this season below for you to see exactly types of lineups are winning.

One of my Showdown wins this season featured my home/favorite team the Minnesota Vikings and feel really good about our prospects this week, so let’s go get’em!

Best of luck my friends.
