The Daily Spin – NFL Cash Game Edition – Week 3

We took what we learned in Week 1 and applied it well in Week 2 for an easy win. I was not sure how it would come out with a couple of busts in my lineup, but hit on the right homerun players to get over the cash line early and never had a sweat the rest of the way.

The key play of the week was Amon-Ra St Brown. He’s been automatic for the last eight regular season games, but the folks at DK and FD just have not been able to get onboard with him as a stud in terms of pricing. He had a massive day against Washington last week as expected which helped to overcome a couple of terrible performances at other positions. I was surprised that he was not more heavily owned.

The other play that really worked out well was Curtis Samuel. We continue to get him at a really low salary and it is clear the Washington intends to use him in a similar manner to Deebo Samuel. He found the endzone again for the second week in a row in the shootout in Detroit. Between ASB and Samuel, that accounted for just under half of my DK points for the week.

I thought the rest of my roster was pretty straightforward. Nearly everyone used the Bengals defense. Although they did not do much, since they were so heavily owned, it took defense out of the equation for the week which I did not mind at all. I also got my first TE zero out of the way for the season. Albert O suckered me in at $3700 and it seemed like such a low bar to clear, but he was non-existent for the Broncos. Every year at least once I punt too deep on TE and inevitably it works out poorly for me. So many other TEs at least had a decent output for the week, but at least I was able to take the hit without it coming in a losing effort.

Greg Dortch was a chalk play that did work out at WR. After Week 1, it looked like he would continue to see volume from Murray as long as Rondale Moore was out and he managed to find the endzone in the second half to easily exceed value for his $3500 salary. Much like Albert O, these types of plays always make me feel a little queasy, especially early in the season, but I needed to find cap space in order to pay up for my RBs last week as well as my flex play.

So how did my big pay up plays work out? They all sucked. Davante Adams caught an early 1-yard TD and then only caught one more pass the rest of the day against a bad Cardinals secondary. Saquon Barkley could not get it going against the Panthers as the Giants limited his touches early. Even when he did finally get some carries late in the game, there was not much room to work. It was a huge letdown a week after he tore up the Titans to start the season. Joe Mixon was a bust as well against the stingy Cowboy defense. It feels like the Bengals have a case of Super Bowl hangover right now. Mixon had a good number of touches, but the whole offense just seems a little out of sync to start the season. Fortunately, these players all had a decent amount of ownership for the week.

At QB, I ended up with Derek Carr who ended up being pretty chalky as well. Trey Lance wrecked a lot of cash game teams last week when he broke his ankle early against Seattle. While Lance graded out well enough to make my article last week, I am just not a Trey Lance truther in any way at all. While Carr did not tear it up, he gave us a floor level performance to get us through the week.

At the end of Sunday, as I checked the DK scores out, my team was comfortably in the money. There were enough busts at the RB position so that it offset my starters and I also managed to avoid a Jerry Jeudy shoulder injury that ended his day early. It was one of those weeks where the cash line was much lower than normal (around 118-119 in most contests) so my 136.08 worked out nicely. We got another week under our belts. We learned a little more about each team around the league and my betting picks went 5-1 so it was a really profitable week.
