The Daily Spin – NFL Cash Game Edition – Week 5

We are about to pass the quarter point in the season this week with Week 5 already. It never fails to amaze me how fast the weeks roll by in the fall once the football season arrives. Every week builds quickly to the Thursday night game and then it is a race to get ready for Sunday, digesting team news, injury information and another week of data that starts to show us the identity of each team and what we should expect to see over the course of the season. If you are keeping detailed notes on your teams that you build, especially for cash games, it is a great time to look back and see if there are any leaks in your process. How are you protecting your own proverbial blindside? Are there areas that you are not seeing that could easily be improved? Managing fantasy sports rosters certainly does not need to be something that you look at seriously over time. This could be a fun hobby that you use to create a rooting interest each week and nothing more. However, if you are serious about evolving, I think going through your own post mortem each Sunday on your lineup is extremely important to improving your play. It is one of the most beneficial exercises that I do each week which is why I like to start my columns with a recap of the previous week for you. While many other fantasy owners will sing the praises of a few key picks, I like to pull back the curtain to try to share what I did right and to see if we can learn collectively from my mistakes.

Now that we are prepared for this autopsy, we get to do it with a smile as my team raced out to a massive amount of points early on and was then able to overcome a lackluster performance from a key player in the late games with little worry. This moves my record to 3-1 overall this season in cash games and what is really interesting is just how easy those three wins have been so far. Usually in the early weeks, I end up sweating out a lot of very tight finishes where just a handful of plays going one way or the other push me just over or just under the pay line, but these last three weeks have gone almost too smoothly. I know that it will not be this easy all season and I know that some of your have been frustrated in coming up a little short. In reviewing some of the lineups that get sent to me each week, I think I have some insight that might help you when making a close decision between a couple of players when finalizing your team.
