The Daily Spin – NFL Cash Game Selections – Week 15

Week 15 is here and with it a full slate of games which I always love. This is one of only a handful of weeks where we get 13 games on the main slate. Next week, we have no Thursday game, but three games on Saturday which gives that day a sort of Thanksgiving feel without the turkey or the in-laws. If you are wondering why this happens, it has to do with the NFL not wanting to step on the toes of college football during the season. With the Army/Navy game wrapping up the regular season for college football tomorrow, the NFL takes full advantage of an open Saturday to get some games into the mix for us. What makes it even better is that the games are actually important and compelling so it should make for a fun bonus day of NFL football. On Week 17, the main slate is 15 games as all teams play on the final Sunday with one game usually getting flexed to Sunday Night (hint hint, it is going to be the Seahawks/49ers tilt unless something wacky happens these next two weeks).

What this means for us as DFS players is that we have a lot more options when it comes to building our rosters the next few weeks. I’m sure that there are still going to be some obvious plays that owners will cluster around, but what you will notice is that it gets tougher and tougher to narrow down your player pool late in the season with so many match ups that jump off the page. This should lead to a wider variety of lineups so hopefully we will see far fewer copies of lineups in events, but with the number of optimizers out there, it probably will not be cut down all that much.

This time of year marks a very important change to what we see early in the season. In the early weeks, everyone starts out with a certain amount of hope, but as the year wears on, things begin to change as teams move up and down in the standings. There are already a few teams that are taking a knee on the season. Most of these teams, we have avoided as they do not usually have many fantasy relevant names. However, this is also the time of year when a lot of unknown players will be pushed into heavy action, emerging out of nowhere to get 20 touches as a newly minted starting RB or moving into the 2nd WR spot on a team and getting 10 targets when just a few weeks prior, they likely would not have been on an NFL roster. We have to be careful in our cash game exposure to these types of players. One week, they may be on top of the world and in the next week, they are back to obscurity.

In looking back at Week 14, we were again pretty on top of things around the league. At QB, Lamar Jackson had a floor type of game, but Deshaun Watson busted out big in garbage time against the Broncos. Sam Darnold was decent for his price.

At the RB position, CMC and Henry rolled as our top two high dollar plays. Nick Chubb went over 100 yards and Melvin Gordon and Devonta Freeman were also both highly effective in great match ups and easily exceeded value. Bilal Powell was a late addition to the list and was a MUST PLAY at his price once Bell was out. Though he did not have huge numbers, he still hit value and saved us a lot of salary cap space.

At WR, Michael Thomas dominated against the 49ers. Julian Edelman had a nearly 25 DK points against the Chiefs and Zach Pascal and Robby Anderson both were great value plays.

At the TE position, Ian Thomas was a really obvious play to save dollars and he continued to produce when given the chance to start in Greg Olson’s absence. Thomas was a MUST PLAY as well and again saved us big dollars to help us build in other areas.

The misses for the week included Aaron Rodgers who was stymied by the Redskins at home as the Pack struggled to put a bad team away. At RB, Leonard Fournette saw plenty of opportunities, but the Jags were blown off the field by the Chargers which led to his worst output of the year. At WR, info came out on Sunday morning that Odell Beckham has been dealing with a sports hernia now for some time which helps to explain his lack of productivity this season, including last week. For the Jets, though we hit with Anderson, Jamison Crowder was a bust and did not get anywhere near the targets against Miami as we would have liked. Also, punt play, Paris Campbell did very little for the Colts and its banged up WR corps as relatively unknown, Marcus Johnson made the biggest splash in going over 100 yards on the day.
