The Daily Spin – NFL Cash Game Selections – Week 17

We have arrived at Week 17 and with it, the fastest third of the year has quickly come to a close. I have heard a lot of great things from our subscribers this season about victories in season long leagues, big GPP scores and a solid run of cash game wins. The 2019 season was an exciting year for us here at FGI/FIE. We launched the new website, expanded the offering and continued to see great support from folks that have been with us for many years. In sitting down with Jeff this last week, we had a great discussion about a lot of things that we are going to work on for 2020.

We enjoyed adding the chat feature on the NFL site here to test out, but decided that it was not as robust as we wanted it to be and after consulting with Aaron, our developer, we are working to develop our own slack chat channel that should be ready in January for the golf season. We will have a schedule up that will allow for regular interaction with all of our contributors during the week so that as the events approach, you will always have direct access to a part of our team to ask those pressing late questions while doing your research.

As for next football season, we will have so many new offerings coming in 2020 that you are going to love the direction we are going. We will have full coverage of free agency when that happens in March. We will be evaluating the draft and how key players fit in with their new teams from a fantasy perspective. Once summer rolls around, we will have rankings and previews available during the preseason. We heard from many of you that Jeff’s season long preview and bold predictions for the season helped many of you to win your season long leagues. Now that we have some time to prepare for next season, expect additional season long coverage in 2020 with some waiver wire advice each week. 2019 was a big step for us in launching the new site, but it is only the beginning for us as we build out a much more robust product in the years ahead.

Week 17 is always one of the most interesting weeks of the season for NFL DFS cash games. Around the league there are a lot of teams left that have everything to play for while others have totally checked out after being eliminated from the playoffs. Some teams will be playing all of their starters while others will treat the finale like a preseason contest by resting all of their fantasy relevant players. Other teams may start the day with something to play for, but by the middle of the game will realize that something is taking place in another game around the league that renders them winning or losing irrelevant. This has been a week where some years, everything works perfectly for me and then in other years, it is a disaster. Be cautious this week. There are some trap plays out there that can suck you in if you are not careful. If in doubt, go over to the GPP contests and rev up some lineups. With a 16 game slate, the options are wide open this week and there are going to be a lot of guys that will be low owned that should have productive days. There is nothing that is obvious this week, despite what some around the industry say from week to week.

Before considering my picks for the last week, I wanted to list out where various teams are at around the league and what is at stake for them this week.

NFC

Playing for playoff seeding:

Seahawks
49ers
Saints
Packers

Playing for Division Title and #4 seed:

Philadelphia – Win and in
Dallas – Win and need a Philly loss

In the playoffs, but locked into seed:

Vikings – #6 seed regardless of result on Sunday and have said that they will be resting starters – AVOID

AFC

In playoffs, but locked into seed:

Ravens – #1 seed and will rest most relevant starters
Bills – #5 seed and will likely not be playing to win
Texans – #4 seed – division clinched, little to play for, should be resting players to avoid injury

Playing for seeding:

Patriots – #2, need to win to clinch a bye
Chiefs – #3, need to win and a Pats loss to move up to #2 and earn a bye

Playing for final wildcard spot:

Titans – Win and in
Steelers – Win and in w Titans loss
Raiders – Win and in w Titans loss, Steelers loss and a handful of other goofy things that are not going to happen

For the rest of the league, it’s the wild west out there. Nobody wants to make it through 16 weeks only to be hurt the last week of the season if the playoffs are not a possibility. Lots of players have already been shut down for the season and many are on cruise control. There are some players that have certain milestones that they will try to hit for contractual purposes and a few that are chasing or establishing records, but the rest of the week is going to test your faith in humanity. I try to avoid the teams that were most recently eliminated from the playoffs. These are the teams that have likely tried to hold themselves together with duct tape late in the year. Players that put everything on the line up to the last couple of weeks are likely going to have an adrenaline dump here in the final week. This is different than playing someone from the Bengals or Giants who have been out of the playoff picture for most of the year and are still looking to get good looks from players to put on film for the offseason.
