Zach’s Betting Picks – Week 9

Interesting week last Sunday. The Vikings went out to Green Bay and shoved the ball down the Packers throat and really exposed Green Bay’s defense. In a game where the winds were a problem and throwing was going to be an issue all day, the Packers could not even manage to crowd the box enough to slow up Dalvin Cook and the Vikings rushing attack. It marked a very rare win for a Minnesota team outdoors, on grass, against a team with a winning record. That’s one of the toughest parts of betting this year is that a lot of these factors go by the wayside without fans in the stands. It was shocking all the more since the Vikings are thread bare on defense right now in missing its best pass rusher, three corners and one star linebacker.

The Miami game went against us as well in one of the weirder games I have bet on in a while. It might be time to start talking about how good Miami is on defense with another impressive performance. The Dolphins managed just 145 total yards (compared to 471 yards for the Rams) and started the game by turning the ball over on a Tua fumble which quickly turned into a Rams TD. The rest of the game was just a comedy of errors for the Rams. Jared Goff threw two INTs and gave away two fumbles which turned into 21 points for the Dolphins. The Rams also gave up a punt return for a TD and that was the ball game. I’d make that bet again if I had the chance as I just don’t think Tua was ready for that Rams defense and it showed. Unfortunately, the Rams just gave that game away.

The final game helped to salvage the week as the Eagles knocked off the Cowboys in one of the least watchable games of the season. Ben DiNucci put up a spirited effort in the first half for Dallas, but the Cowboys just are not good enough to overcome any big mistakes so when Dallas lost a couple of key fumbles, that was all it took for the Eagles to pounce and put the game out of reach. The only scary part of this game was when Al Michaels tried to jinx it by calling the cover for the Eagles with two minutes left while Dallas had the ball in garbage time! You should know better, Al!
